Golden Thread Fire Delay is a specialist market-leading Passive Fire Protection (PFP) company, whose services include the installation of fire stopping systems, the inspection, installation and remediation of fire doors, fire compartmentation surveys, the application of intumescent coatings, sprayed cementitious and thermal coatings, all types of fire protection board, and soffit fire, thermal and acoustic lining systems.

Those responsible for existing buildings shouldn’t use the absence of a satisfactory paper trail as an excuse to avoid making their buildings fire compliant. Accredited documents can be created quickly and cost effectively as industry standards are available to do this, e.g. BRE / LPCB Standard LPS 1197 allows previously uncertified ‘nominal’ fire doors to be inspected and certified and they can thereafter be inspected, remediated and LPCB Certified annually to provide ‘golden thread’ management control of their function and compliance.

Fire Tested Systems
There isn’t a ‘one type suits all’ firestopping solution; as shown in this image, the materials used vary depending on the location, size of required seal, what services breach the penetration, the fire rating required, if there are airsealing or acoustic requirements and any other considerations such as moisture and movement.
Manufacturers test their products for all of these factors and then create and supply ‘detail drawings’ to reflect how they’ve been tested and how they should be installed to replicate and achieve the required fire rating.
Firestopping companies need to record what has been installed in what location and who has installed it to provide adequate quality assurance. On new build and refurbishment projects this level of detail is also required to provide building owners with a ‘golden thread’ of information.

Capturing the Information
“Survey and inspection details are captured electronically on all Golden Thread Fire Delay projects and, upon completion, a detailed report will be provided including a spreadsheet incorporating a complete list of components inspected, plans of the building (if supplied) showing component locations and a comprehensive range of photographs along with information on the specific defect issues identified with an assessment of likely repair/remediation costs.
